When opening Outlook Express
an hourglass comes up and will not go away,
making it impossible to use Outlook Express

Problem:  Too many messages in Inbox.

Usually the only way to get into the inbox to delete some of the messages and remedy this is to boot the computer in "Safe Mode"

Restart the computer and as soon as you see the black & white text on the screen start tapping the F8  Key (Function Key 8).

Continue tapping the F8 key until you get a black & white menu.

Either use your Arrow keys to move to the selection that say's "Safe Mode", or type the number in the list.  Usually number 3.

When the computer comes up in Safe Mode the desktop will be large fonts and only 8 or 16 colors. The words "Safe Mode" will appear in each of the four corners of the screen.

Open Outlook Express.   Delete whatever messages in the inbox that you can spare.

Close Outlook Express.

Restart the computer.

When the computer comes back up you will be able to get into Outlook Express with no problem.
